Our Best Year Yet!! On the first night of the songwriters festival here in Belfast, we new it was going to be our best year yet when several artists returned to Madisons Hotel saying their concert was magical.
With over 30 concerts in four days, the city really did come alive with great music. Our concert numbers were up and the Song Writing Convention was excellent with quality workshops and panel discussions all week. Right after the 5th festival ended, we started work on our March visit to Nashville and SXSW in Austin. With support from Belfast City Council and the Arts Council of NI, we travelled over to promote next year's Belfast Nashville Songwriters events.
Our friends in Nashville helped us out with two great showcase concerts. On 16th March, Ben Glover, Eilidh Patterson, Anthony Toner, Ken Haddock, Bap Kennedy and Foy Vance joined Nashville Grammy Award writers Tia Sillers and Mark Selby on stage at Dan McGuinness's. What a showcase- superb songs and the audience full of music industry people.
St Patrick's Day was very special too. We worked closely with Belfast City Council to celebrate the Sister Cities link between the two cities. Together, we put on a 'Belfast Nashville Songwriters Celebration' at The Belcourt Theatre. Big thank you to Carolyn Mathers for putting up with all of us!! Five of the Belfast songwriters shared a stage with legendary figures from Nashville and every one of them shone with their songs. We handed out a free promo CD to highlight eleven of our best songwriters. Our biggest supporter Nanci Griffith gave up her free time to perform and so too did world-class songwriters Guy Clark, Gary Nicholson and Lee Roy Parnell (can't believe i'm writing these names!!). Thanks to every one of you for that.
We've already started working on the line up for the last week in February 2010.
